James J. GLEESON was born November 15, in 1888, in Garyyard, near Silvermines, County Tipperary, Ireland. He was the son of James GLEESON and Ellen HERBERT.
James Gleeson came to the USA in on September 22, 1911, arriving on the ship Celtic. The Celtic was built for the White Star and Dominion Line by Harlan & Wolff Limited, Belfast, Ireland, in 1901. It was the largest vessel afloat from 1901 to 1903, 20,904 gross tons, 700 feet long and 75 feet wide, 2857 passengers, 347 first class, 160 second class and 2,350 third class passengers. In the 1920 census, James Gleeson is listed as single, 31 years old, living with Frank Hanna, listed as married and age 35. Frank Hanna's wife was not listed in the 1920 census, so she probably had returned to Ireland for a visit.
