From the June 5th, 1900 census, we find this family living in Vacaville, Solano County, California. Henry is a harnessmaker, born January 1872 in Nebraska. His father is listed as born in Illinois and his mother as born in Nebraska. His wife Margaret was born in December 1870 in West Virgina, her father was born in Scotland and her mother was born in Iowa.
From the 1910 census we find this family now living in the Brooklyn Township of the City of Oakland, Alameda County, California. Henry is listed as a Detective, City Employee. Besides Henry's wife and 4 children, also in the household is Henry's brother A. Edward Caldwell, age 36, a cement contractor. (Henry's father is now listed as born in Pennsylvania, and Margaret's mother is now born in New York)
As of the Janaury 2, 1920 census, the family is living at 5528 East 17th Street in Oakland. Henry's father is now listed as born in Ohio and his mother was born in Michigan. The only child left in the residence is Beatrice. She is working as a chemist in a laboratory. Also in the residence is Henry's mother Josephine, age 69. As of the 10 April 1930 census the family was still living at 5528 East 17th, and consisted of Henry, a Detective for the City Police, Margaret and Henry's mother Josephine. The family owns the residence and it is valued at $8,000.
