Rollin was born in Agency, Iowa, which is just east Ottumwa, and west of Fairfield, Iowa
The family resided for many years in Fort Madison, Lee County, Iowa.
Rollin James HOPKIRK married Harriet DIEDRICH. The following is from a newspaper clipping at the time of their wedding, unfortunately we don't have the date of the clipping or the name of the newspaper. This is EXACTLY how it appears in the clipping:: With the impressive ring ceremony, at a quiet home wedding, Mr. Rollin Hopkirk and Miss Harriet Diedrich were united in marriage at the home of the bride's parents in Ft. Madison, at 8 o'clock last evening, by Rev. Gageby, of the Presbyterian church Mr. Gageby of the Presbyterian church only relatives and near friends attending. Mrs. Hopkirk is the daughter of Chas Diedrich, a well-known retired merchant. Besides being a young lady of exceptional beauty, Mrs. Hopkirk possesses rare literary and musical talents. She proved an apt pupil of vical instruction under Mrs. F. J. Allen, of Burlington, once appearing before the Burlington public in the laeding role of "The Sea Fairies," a successful home talent play. Mr. Hopkirk is a man of extraordinary energy and ability. He has taken full charge of his aged father's insurance work, and unquestionably holds the bulk of local business in that line. At the services, Miss Glays Murdy, equally well known in Burlington for her musical voice, sang the Spring Soni. Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Peters of Burlington, attended the wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Hopkirk will be at home at 1008 Fourth street, after June 20.
