Agnes HOPEKIRK and Charles Edward RICHARDS

Agnes HOPEKIRK was the daughter of Robert Craigie HOPEKIRK and Mary WEBB

Agnes was born 5 March 1840 in Exeter, Devon, England.

From the 1841 census, Agnes is listed as born in Devon, and is 3 months old.

From the 1851 census, Agnes is 10 years old, a scholar, living with her family at 42 High Street, Exeter. She was born in Exeter, in the Precinct of The  Close, the Close of St. Peter's Cathedral, Devon, England.

From the 1861 census, Agness is now age 20 and she is lving with her parents at 12 High Street, just down the street from their former residence.

On 11 May 1869 Agnes HOPEKIRK married Charles Edward Richards in the St. James Parish Church in the City of Exeter, Devon, after Banns. Angess is a resident of Marldon Villas, her father is Robert HOPEKIRK, a deceased hairdresser. Charles is a Merchant's Clerk and his  residence is in Manchester. Charles father is Edward William RICHARDS, a deceased schoolmaster. There is a village of Marldon in the South Hams District of Devon County. View the Marriage Record.

From the 1881 census we find this family living at Wellington Road, "Fernbank", in the Civil Parish of Withington, registration District of Chorlton, and Sub-registration District of Didsbury, Lancashire, England.. Agnes is now 40, born in Exeter, Devon, England. Her husband Charles is also 40, born in Exeter. He is a Manager for a Shipping Merchant. Their children are Edward W. RICHARDS age 10, Arthur P. RICHARDS age9, Charles E. RICHARDS age 8, Agnes T. RICHARDS age 6, Edith C. RICHARDS age 2. The 3 sons were all born at Heaton Chapel, Lancashire, England and the daughters at Withington, Lancashire, England. Also in the home is 23 year old Agnes Atkinson, a servant.

From the 1891 census we find this family in the town of Ilkley, Yorkshire, England. House name is "Southernbay" in the Wharefdale registration district. Charles E is now 50, Agnes is 50, Edward W is 20, Charles E is 18 and Edith C is 12. Also in the residence are three servant girls, Lavinia Hirst age 20, Olivia Rivers age 20, and Eliza Harrison age 20. What has happened to Agnes T HOPEKIRK, she would have been 16 years old as of this census.

From the 1911 census we find Charles Edward RICHARDS, age 70 married for 41 years and his wife Agnes RICHARDS age 70. They have had 5 children, 3 of whom are still living. But surprisingly, Agnes Florence RICHARDS, age 36 is living with them. Charles occupation is a "Shipping Merchant" and the product is Textile Machinery. He is an Employer. Charles was born in Devon, Heavitree and Agnes was born in Devon, Exeter and Agnes born in Lancashire, Manchester.
