George Emmet UTTER & Ida M.
George's paerents were Ira UTTER, born about 1806 in New York, and Mary, born about 1815 in New York. Per a family tree on Ancestry.com, Ira UTTER's Utter ancestor, Nicolas Mattson UTTER, arrived in New Amsterdam, USa, in the mid 1600's.
 
Ira and Mary were probably married in either New York or Illinois. Eldest daughter Harriet was born around 1839 in Illinois, while daughter Clara was born in Wisconsin around 1841. Son Frank was born about 1853 in Wisconsin, but by the 1856 Iowa census the family was living in Eden, Fayette County, Iowa.

Ira UTTER is probably the Ira UTTER buried at Bethel Cemetery in Hawkeye, Fayette County, Iowa. Also located in this cemetery is Frank E. UTTER, born in 1853 and died in 1914, So this would be father and son. Fron the 1850 census we find Ira UTTER, age 44, born in New York, living at Delevan, Walworth Couty, Wisconsin. His wife is Mary UTTER, age 35, born in New York, Harriet UTTER age 11, born in Illinois, Clara UTTER age 9, born in Wisconsin,  Albert UTTER age 6, born in Wisconsin, and (George) Emmet UTTER age 1, born in Wisconsin.

From the 1856 Iowa State Census we find Ira UTTER living at Eden, Fayette County, Iowa, age 48, born in New York. Also in the residence are Mary UTTER age 42, Hariet E. UTTER age 17, Clara C. UTTER age  15, William A. UTTER age 12, Emmit G. UTTER age 7 and Frank UTTER age 3.

From the 1860 census we find George living with his parents in Eden, Fayette County, Iowa. His father Ira UTTER is 52, born in New York. Mary is 45, born in New York. Clara C UTTER is 19, born in Wisconsin. Albert UTTER is 17, born in Wisconsin. George UTTER is 11, born in Wisconsin. Frank UTTER is 7, born in Wisconsin and Frederick UTTER is 1, born in Iowa.

From the 1870 census we find Ira UTTER, age 62, a Farmer, born in New York. They are living Windsor, Fayette, Iowa. The value of his farm is $3,000 and the value of his personal estate is $1,196. His wife Ida is 56, born in New York, Keeping House. Their son G. E. UTTER is 21, born in Wisconsin, a farm laborer. Frank E. UTTER, age 14, born in Wisconsin, works on farm. Fred UTTER age 11, born in Iowa, at home and Adel UTTER, age 1, born in Iowa.

Around 1873 George UTTER marred Ida. George was born in Wisconsin and Ida was born in Pennsylvania, per the 1900 census record.

From the 1880 census we find the following family living in Long Island, Phillips County, Kansas: George E. Utter, age 31, born in Wisconsin. His parents were both born in New York. He is a farmer. His wife is Ida M Utter, age 31, born in Pennsylvania. Her father was born in New York and her mother in Pennsylvania. Ida is listed as Keeping House. Iona M. Utter is age 7 and Fred Utter is age 1.

From the 1880 Agricultural Schedule of the Federal Census, dated 11 June 1880, we find that G. E UTTER had 35 acres of tilled land and 125 acres of unimproved land. The value of the farm was $500 and his farm equipment was worth $150, and his live stock was worth $200. The value of his 1879 farm production was $27.  He had 18 acres of Mown grasslands and  produced 12 tons of hay, and he owned two horses..

From the 1885 Kansas Census, taken 3 March 1885, we find George E. UTTER, age 35, a farmer, Ida UTTER, age 35, Iona UTTER, age 11, and Fred UTTER, age 6, living in Dayton, Phillips County, Kansas.



From the 1900 census we find G. Emmet UTTER, age 50, born in October 1849, and Ida M UTTER, age 50, also born in October 1849, living in Long Island, Phillips County, Kansas.. They have been married for 27 years. All their children are out of the household.

From the 1910 census George E and Ida M UTTER, both age 60, were living on their own in Long Island, Phillips County, Kansas.

In 1915 G. E. UTTER and Ida M UTTER were both 65 years old and living with C. P. ELLIS, age 41, and Edna ELLIS, age 31 , in Long Island, Kansas.

George Emmet UTTER and Ida M. had the following known children:

     Iona M. UTTER, born about 1873

     Fred Leo UTTER, born about 1881.
