Robert HOPKIRK was a son of William HOPKIRK & Eliza STEWART.

Robert was born 27 September 1856 at 32 Kirkgate, South Leith. Robert
was a blacksmith by trade.
On 30 July 1880, at Milnes Court, Edinburgh, Robert married Mary Elizabeth
CURRIE, the daughter of Daniel CURRIE and Mary CRAWFORD.
Mary Elizabeth was born 17 December 1857 at 73 Main Street, Glasgow.
Mary Elizabeth was a lacquerer by trade and she died 31 December 1933 at
Hatton Mains, Kirknewton.
The funeral was held 2 January 1934 and Mary Elizabeth was buried at North
Merbston Cemetery.
Robert died 28 July 1914 at Bonnington, Ratho.
Robert HOPKIRK and Mary Elizabeth CURRIE had the following children:
William Watson HOPKIRK,
born 8 April 1881, 8 Brandfield Street, Edinburgh. He was a blacksmith by
trade.
William was unmarried and died 15 April
1914, age 33 years, at Longmore Hospital.
He had lupus of the face, upper and lower
jaw cancer. His home was given as Bonnington, Ratho.
Edith HOPKIRK, born 29
February 1884, 34 Lauriston Street, Edinburgh
Edith married Thomas Johnstone, a dental
instrument maker, on 26 February 1909, They moved to Montreal, Canada.
Robert HOPKIRK, born 7
December 1885, 43 Earl Grey Street, Edinburgh. Robert was a stone mason by
trade.
Robert moved to Australia in 1911 and
married Margaret Ballantyne on 26 July 1913.
Donald Currie HOPKIRK,
born 26 Janaury 1888, 8 Brandfield Street, Edinburgh. He was a farmer by
trade..
Donald moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba,
Canada in 1913, aged 25, disembarked in Quebec.
Donald enlisted in the Canadian Overseas
Expeditionary Force on 16 November 1917.
Janet (Jenny) HOPKIRK,
10 February 1891, 50 Bread Street, Edinburgh. She was a tea room waitress.
Jenny married Ernest STIFF, on 5 February
1913. Ernest was a printer/machineman.
Cecelia (Cis) Halliday
HOPKIRK, born 2 January 1893, 2 Semple Court, Edinburgh
Cis married Robert BELL on 15 April 1919.
Robert was a gardner.
James (Jim) HOPKIRK, born
7 July 1898, 6 Smithfield Street, Edinburgh
James was a hire car operator by trade.
His wife was named Joan.
Thomas (Tommy) Nichol HOPKIRK, born 22 August 1903, Bonnington, Ratho. Tommy was a carrier by trade and never married

From the 1901 census we find Robert Hopkirk, age 45, blacksmith, Mary, age 43, William, age 19, blacksmith, Edith, age 17, marker and packer at laundry, Robert, age 15, apprentice baker, Donald, age 13, Janet, age 10, Cecelia, age 8, and James age 2, living at 6 Smithfield Street, Edinburgh
