From the 1881 census we know that Isaac HOBKIRK was living with his wife Elizabeth at 28 Wharncliffe St., Elswick, Northumberland. Isaac HOBKIRK is listed as 39, born in Newcastle and his occupation is a Brush Maker. His wife Elizabeth is listed as 37 and born in Newcastle. Also living in the residence was Isaac's father Charles C. P. HOBKIRK, age 77 and listed as a Seed Merchant and a Shopman.
The following children are listed on the 1881 census:

From the 1891 census, this family is living at 41 Jefferson Street, Newcastle and Isaac's wife has passed away. Isaac is listed as 49, widowed, and a manager for a bench manufacturer. The rest of the residents are as follows:
Amy E. B., 13

Given the ages of the children, it is possible that the two oldest children were the result of another marriage.
